TSSC is currently the only active synagogue between Portland and Augusta, serving members of the Central Maine Jewish Community in Lewiston/Auburn, and from as far away as Bridgton, Naples, and Farmington. Our beautiful temple was built in 1982, following the merger of Congregation Beth Jacob of Lewiston (founded in the 1920s) and the Lewiston Jewish Community Center (founded in the 1950s). For many years, we were affiliated with the Conservative Movement; however, since 2004 Temple Shalom has been an independent, egalitarian congregation, welcoming all Jews and all levels of Jewish observance. Our mission is to foster a strong Jewish identity and an active Jewish community.
Shabbat services are offered every Saturday morning, the
preliminary service at 9:30 am and the shacharit service at
10:00 am, followed by kiddush. All are welcome!
We also offer a Thursday morning minyan at 7:00 am, as well as
holiday services, Jewish education for children and adults, a
book club, and adult education courses. Please see our
upcoming events calendar and newsletter at left, or contact us
for more information. Our office is open Monday through
Thursday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, and Friday 9:00 - 3:00.
