Education

Jewish learning is a lifelong activity at TSSC.

Family Hebrew School
IMG_5865
IMG_5876Beginning at pre-school age (earlier than most Hebrew Schools), we invite children and their parents and siblings to come Sunday mornings during the school year (except on vacation weeks) to learn Hebrew, holidays, and other aspects of Judaism, using songs, crafts, stories and more. Starting in September 2014, there will also be a family Shabbat service once a month in lieu of that week’s Sunday morning class, as well as periodic field trips. Parents are encouraged to come with their children both to provide them with an opportunity to learn along with their children, and to model continuing Jewish learning to their children. At the end of the year,we have a school picnic.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah
IMG_3609Candidates meet one-on-one with the Rabbi once each week, starting approximately one year before their Bar/Bat Mitzvah date. Students will expand on the skills they have learned in Family Hebrew School and prepare a Dvar Torah on their Torah portion. Each student also plans and carries out a mitzvah project. We ask that our Bar/Bat Mitzvah candidates have at least three years of our Family Hebrew School, or another synagogue school, or an equivalent level of knowledge, as determined by the Rabbi.

Adults
TSSC offers regular adult education courses, open to the public, on such topics as Prayerbook Hebrew, Alternative Jewish World Views, Interfaith Studies, Judaism 101, etc. Please see our newsletter or the calendar for the latest information. TSSC also has a free lending library for members.
